With elections coming up, Obama is starting his campaign strategies, which include (finally) answering all those whitehouse.gov petitions (though I’m uncertain whether those pat, politic, uncommitted and nebulous replies deserve to be called “answers”), some good news announcements for things like the XL Pipeline (am I supposed to say thanks for not ruining our environment just yet?), and gearing up for his State of the Union address.
And, with all of this, his campaign is trying to reconnect him with a deeply distanced base and the American people in general. Anyways, one of the strategies used in all of these efforts is his “talking” to the American people, the idea that he’s listening and responding. And I’ve been getting some emails from the White House (I’m on a few mailing lists), asking what I’d like to ask the President. In short, they’re looking for more material, more gripes for the President to take care of - or make it seem like he’s taking care of.
So here’s what I’m going to do, and what I think we all should be doing. Let’s focus on one essential question, a question that Occupy and others have been talking about, a question which cuts to the core of so much corruption in politics:
Mr. President, what are you
going to doDOING to get money out of politics?
Let’s make this our question, and the question for all the candidates. Let’s spread the word to make this the defining question of the election - and just maybe we’ll start to see some real, lasting change.
P.s. 5 days left to submit this question to Obama’s youtube ‘interview’. Come on Tumblr, let’s make a dent!
